Simple and fast ways to sterilize jars

The container must be carefully sterilized before use. This will keep the contents for a long time and avoid poisoning. During sterilization, the death of harmful microorganisms occurs and the container becomes suitable for use. There are several easy and fast ways to do this process.

Over the pot

This method is quite simple and allows you to process a small number of cans in a short time. The bottom line is exposure to hot steam, which is detrimental to bacteria.

To implement the method, you will need:

  • a saucepan with a wide bottom and a neck;
  • drushlag or sieve;
  • water.

Pour clean water into the pan to half and put on the stove. After boiling the liquid, place a colander or sieve on top, you can use the grate. Set the jars upside down, while they must be washed and dried. For containers with a volume of 1-2 liters, exposure to steam for about 15 minutes is enough, three-liter jars should be processed for at least 25 minutes, and small ones should be kept for about 8-10 minutes.

In the oven

A great way to sterilize multiple jars at once. Moreover, they can be of completely different volumes, the time will be the same for all containers. The oven does not heat up before use, the container is installed on a wire rack, a baking sheet. The position of the cans is unimportant, you can place them both neck down and up. With this method of sterilization, it is not necessary to dry the container before processing, just wash it thoroughly.

When the required number of jars is installed, you can close the door and turn on the oven at 110 degrees. This will be enough for efficient processing. After 18-20 minutes, you can turn off the oven, but you can’t immediately take out the jars. With a sharp change in temperature, they can burst. You need to wait until the container cools down a bit. When removing, it is important to observe safety measures and use a dry towel or oven mitts.

Above the teapot

This method is suitable for processing a small amount of containers. The volume of the kettle and cans can be any. First you need to boil water in the kettle, it is better to use a conventional appliance, not an electric one. Banks are alternately put on the spout with the neck down, while the power of the heating device — the stove — decreases. The effect of steam is the same in duration as in the first method. For very small containers, you can use improvised kitchen items that will fit into the spout of the kettle. On such a design, the bank is put on top.

In the slow cooker

Modern technology can also be used to sterilize jars. Multicookers or double boilers are ideal for this. The temperature during their operation is created sufficient for processing the surface of the container. To do this, fill the bowl of the appliance with water, install a special device for steaming on top. Wash and dry the jars thoroughly.

On the nozzle, place the containers with their necks down and turn on the “steam” cooking mode. The lid of the device can be left open if the jars are large, and when sterilizing small ones, close the device. Steam exposure time is similar to the first method. It is worth simultaneously processing cans of the same volume, this will allow less control over the process.

in the microwave

This method is suitable for small jars. Pour a little water into the pre-washed container, about 2 cm is enough. Place the jars in the microwave and turn on at full power. Sterilize for no more than 5 minutes, while the containers should be covered with droplets of water, and the liquid itself should boil in them. After the time has elapsed, drain the water, and turn the jars upside down on a dry and clean towel. Caps cannot be sterilized in this way.
